Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office Vs. Online Predators

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Pete DeLea of The Star in Cleveland County has written an excellent 3-part article on on the efforts of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office to crack down on online sexual predators.

The series focuses on Capt. Bobby Steen’s work, the sentences online predators receive, current legislation that would amend the laws and ways parents can help protect their children… unfortunately, they didn’’t meniton our awesome PC Pandora… but what the heckl… I still urge everyone to check it out.

Part 1 – ‘Someone has to protect the children’ – focuses on Cleveland County Sheriff’s Capt. Bobby Steen and his work in catching online predators. The second half of this first part taeks a look at the sizes, shapes and foms (if you will) that predators come in.

The first half of Part 2 – New breed of sexual predators – looks at the anonymity that the Internet affords pedophiles. The second half tosses out some good tips for parents.

The final portion, Part 3 – Online sexual predators often walk away from crime – tackles an issue that I have brought up here before -> that of arrested and convicted offenders getting little to no jail time. The piece offers some hope with proposed legistlation that would make penatlies a lot stiffer for those who find comfort in soliciting children online for sex.

I urge everyone to take a read of the whole piece. It’s very good… very in-depth… and has lots of great info on the efforts of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office – whom I raise my glass in toast to…

Once a Scumbag, Always a Sicko…

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported this week that a guy from Washington County man, who is already under arrest on charges of sending porn to an undercover state agent he thought was a 13-year-old girl, has been charged again! This time for sending porn images to a state trooper posing as a 15-year-old girl.

You can read Torsten Ove’s article here: Child predator unit ’stings’ man 2nd time

43-year-old David M. Robbins, of Monongahela, is a sicko! He’s also the shining example of how basically all sex offenders will repeat the crime. Once a sicko – always a sicko!

He is the reason parents need to protect their own kids. He is a walking example of the crappy system that will never be able to completely stop and/or protect your kids! Not only does it just pick these guys up and spit them back on the street (see my previous blog on how they are receiving almost no punishment)…

In fact, the article also mentions another dirtbag who sent nude images to the same undercover agent: 37-year-old Edward Berzins – who is an OFFICER with the police department in Gloucester Township, N.J.!!!

WHAT THE HELL! Not only is the system not working to maximum efficiency, but now the dirtbags are within!

Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of arrests made and sometimes the publicity can be damage enough to the pervs that are caught… My main point is thus:

Parents: It is 100% up to you. Don’t rely on anyone else to keep your kids safe. For $35 (June sale price) you can protect your family with PC Pandora. That’s a very small price for a lot of peace of mind!!!!

Where’s the Beef?

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Sheila Mclaughlin of The Enquirer in Cincinnati wrote an EXCELLENT piece that looks at the very common practice of letting arrested and charged online predators walk away with as little as probation to a maximum of 90 days of served jail time. Read here: Are these guys a threat?

Absolutely ridiculous.

The article focuses on cases in Ohio, but it is a problem happening across the country.

One of the biggest problems, according to the article, is that some judges see online luring as a victimless crime, because cops are on the other end of the invitation for sex. Judges say they aren’t sure just how to punish online predators or how to predict whether they are truly a threat.

One judge was quoted as saying: “There’s so much junk that goes on on the Internet, it’s really hard for judges to get a handle on (this kind of crime). Are we catching people that would otherwise molest children or are we sort of creating the opportunity for a crime that never existed before? Would they have done something, or are they just kind of voyeurs on the Internet? We don’t have a crystal ball that tells us the right answer.”

Are you kidding me? These dirtbags know EXACTLY what they are doing and what they WANT to do.

Complicating matters in certain areas is a crunch on jail space. Officials have to wrestle with the issue of putting a online predator in jail means some DUI offender is not going to be sitting in jail. So you have to ask: “Which is better for society? A drunk driver running around loose or a guy that’s trolling on the Internet?”

Um… DUH. How about the guy that wants to molest kids.

The drunk driver…? Take away his/her car and license and make them take a bus! No need to waste space for them in jail!

Either way, the only good out of these cases, it seems, is the publicity and media circus that follow them. At least the embarrassment of being convicted of a sex crime will punish the offenders. Now family and friends know they’re trolling on the Internet, and that they are sleazy enough to ask a child to have sex with them.

What do you think?

Florida Arrests 126 Internet Predators in “Operation Eviction”

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

What a KICK ASS day for law enforcement in Florida!

Both WFTV and the Orlando Sentinel have stories on the efforts of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s “Operation Eviction,” a statewide effort to target sex offenders who were targeting children.

The operation ended with 126 arrests, stemming from stings and investigations across the state.

The scumbags? In the mix were business owners, maintenance workers, school teachers, healthcare workers and even a law enforcement officer. All walks of life, all one thing in a common: an illicit desire for children.

As the summer draws near and children will be spending more time online unsupervised, PC Pandora wants to remind parents to educate yourselves, talk to your kids and take advantage of our $15 off offer and protect your family with PC Pandora monitoring software!!

Some “questions” for thought…

Friday, June 1st, 2007

I don’t have much news to update you all with today… So, I’m going to use this time to vent and get your opinion…

I have addressed this issue before, but it keeps happening and I just don’t get it…

I’ve seen a lot of stories lately on Net safety. It’s very true the issue is coming to major light and is high on the minds of parents…

Predators are being busted left and right… parents are going to meetings and talking to their kids… and police and law enforcement officials are hosing seminars…

In these seminars, a cop will go online – LIVE – and pose as a kid. Within minutes, they are approached by a skeevy older guy trying to sexually communicate in some manner… whether it be naughty pics or dirty details.

The idea is to scare parents, and it works.

Why?

Because the guys are out there…

So, why, then… and maybe more importantly, how, are some people claiming the issue isn’t as big as it seems… and that the media is blowing things out of proportion and hyping things up.

Just because we know the number of ‘registered’ or ‘known’ sex offenders, doesn’t mean we know the ridiculous number of would-be-convicted offenders.

The truth is there is no way to know how many dirtbags are out there – but it’s a LOT!

And while kids may be getting smarter and curbing their Net practices, some blatantly are not… especially the ones that don’t have good relationships with their parents and just don’t care.

Until the issue is far more resolved than it already is, there will continue to be a need to monitoring software. It adds the extra layer of protection. If you have that open dialogue with your kids and someone approaches then, you have a record OR if you don’t have a good relationship with your kids, but still have their safety at heart – grab some PC Pandora.

We actually have a sale now. Put “safety2007” in as the code at checkout and save $15!!!!

Think about this one… if the problem isn’t that big – why does it keep happening on a grand scale.

Have a good weekend.
