Some “questions” for thought…
I don’t have much news to update you all with today… So, I’m going to use this time to vent and get your opinion…
I have addressed this issue before, but it keeps happening and I just don’t get it…
I’ve seen a lot of stories lately on Net safety. It’s very true the issue is coming to major light and is high on the minds of parents…
Predators are being busted left and right… parents are going to meetings and talking to their kids… and police and law enforcement officials are hosing seminars…
In these seminars, a cop will go online – LIVE – and pose as a kid. Within minutes, they are approached by a skeevy older guy trying to sexually communicate in some manner… whether it be naughty pics or dirty details.
The idea is to scare parents, and it works.
Why?
Because the guys are out there…
So, why, then… and maybe more importantly, how, are some people claiming the issue isn’t as big as it seems… and that the media is blowing things out of proportion and hyping things up.
Just because we know the number of ‘registered’ or ‘known’ sex offenders, doesn’t mean we know the ridiculous number of would-be-convicted offenders.
The truth is there is no way to know how many dirtbags are out there – but it’s a LOT!
And while kids may be getting smarter and curbing their Net practices, some blatantly are not… especially the ones that don’t have good relationships with their parents and just don’t care.
Until the issue is far more resolved than it already is, there will continue to be a need to monitoring software. It adds the extra layer of protection. If you have that open dialogue with your kids and someone approaches then, you have a record OR if you don’t have a good relationship with your kids, but still have their safety at heart – grab some PC Pandora.
