Three Minutes With An “Expert” On Protecting Kids Online

Gregory Smith is the CIO of the World Wildlife Fund, and now he’s an author of the recently published How To Protect Your Children On The Internet: A Road Map For Parents And Teachers, by Praeger Publishers.

Now, I am not knocking the topic and I commend him for discussing the topic and bringing attention to it (it’s obvious that as a CIO of a large non-profit organization it was easy to swing a book deal)… but why is the guy that runs the group that tries to protect endangered species (nature) writing a book on protect kinds on the internet (technology). Could the two topics be further apart?

Anyway, props to him, but I question the term “Expert” in the title of the article in PC World. You can read it here: Three Minutes with an “Expert” on Protecting Kids Online. Either way, the article is still a good read…

Too bad he doesn’t mention that PC Pandora is the best protection parents can get to keep their kids safe from online predators and cyberbullying. Parents should be monitoring their kids, and PC Pandora is the best tool for the job!

I checked out PC pandora and its a great tool. With the way the world is increasingly becoming unsafe and kids being kids do not want to be monitored , I feel its a great tool. As we al know you can not keep your kids on short leash all the time and you spend endless hours worrying abut what your kid has been up to while you were sleeping or doing laundry or simply cooking. With this software at least I feel atleast you have secured one door. Few months back a teenage kid died in my country , he was abducted and later killed and suspects were his friends from orkut. They had called him to meet him planning to abduct him and demand ransom but things went wrong and boy ended up being dead. I feel something like PC Pandora would have prevented this crime and alerted his parents before hand. Thanks for such and informative article and tool.

Wow… That is terrible. I am aghast.

If the parents of the offenders had PC Pandora or something like it on their PCs and the communication for the act was carried out to some degree on the PC (and I am sure it was), this act could have been most definitely prevented.

    Thanks for sharing.
