Man Met Lakeland Teen Through MySpace And Sexually Battered Her
Yet another case of MySpace gone bad… but this one is intriguing.
First, the story is here, Detectives: Man met Lakeland teen through MySpace and sexually battered her, I suggest reading quickly. The gist is that this 39-year-old guy, Richard Gagnon Jr., met a 14-year-old girl through MySpace. They became friends and basically, he drove from the Ft. Lauderdale to the Lakeland area of Florida (a good 4-hour drive) several times over the summer to meet her and have sex with her in a local Motel 6. He would often sexually batter her.
But there’s the curious part – SHE KEPT DOING IT!!! It wasn’t one incident… it was no less than 5 times!
If you haven’t gone to the link yet, please do. LOOK AT THE GUY!!! HOW did any 14-year-old girl meet THIS GUY face to face and go through with it – OVER AND OVER?! And get sexually beaten?
Well, folks, this is just pure insanity. Why do we need to monitor our kids? Because obviously they aren’t adult or mature enough to make sane decisions. Clearly this girl has issues, but beyond that – where were the parents? It’s ridiculous.
This is another fantastic argument FOR monitoring your child’s Internet activity. Don’t give them carte blanche and total freedom. They aren’t smart enough to make the decisions that they come across with the Internet at the fingertips.
Use monitoring software like PC Pandora! You’ll be able to see if your little girl is leaving the house to have sex with and get beaten by an ogre.
Ridiculous.

Sick!! I really do feel sorry for the girl and her parents.I Even if is she did give her consent, she would have never anticipated all this.Another example of why parental control is extremely crucial for Children.

But then a girl at the age of 14 does get to know quite a lot.!you possibly cant hid everything.!!So,I guess she should be blamed for this as she had already given her consent.!!

Yeah….despite all the new world talk of giving children more independence, parents should still take more care thane ver before esepcailly as the internet has opened a whole new world of avenues and risks for children

@mike—Whatever knowledge a girl has a the age of 14 is either make-believe or half-knowledge. You cant expect her to go out and survive with all that!

Just goes to show how important parental monitoring is for children.there has to be an umbrella of safety and guidance over children at least till they are 18 and one of the ways they can do it is by using good monitoring software and creating a healthy ethical open environment at home.!!
