Happy 2008!

2007 was a great year for our industry of online safety… The basic foundation of awareness spread like wildfire. We are hoping to see a lot more awareness and more parents smartening up and watching their kids online. Just because they are at home, doesn’t mean they are safe; the internet is a “world wide” playground.

Over the next few days I am going to be catching up on stories from the last few days of 2007. I will post the more interesting ones herw, as I did with the final 2007 post.

Here’s the first of many – some good news…

Sheriff’s department establishes MySpace page – A southern Indiana sheriff’s department has created a MySpace page, using the social networking site as a way to protect children from online predators. Gibson County Deputy Brad Garnett, who maintains the Web page, said the department’s presence on MySpace could lessen the number of child predators, particularly those who target children who have the department listed among their friends. As of now [1/2/08; 2:53PM ET] they have 181 friends.
