How Dangerous Isn’t the Internet for Children?

Amy Tiemann at cNet wrote on her blog about a New York Times article that surfaced last week by tech columnist David Pogue. How Dangerous Is the Internet for Children? (Pogue’s column) is a good look into and case against the media’s over-hyping of online threats. While I am not going to rush in and claim reports are not stretched at all and fear tactics are not used, I also was a bit disappointed at the very direct assertion that “the sexual-predator thing is way, way overblown.”

Tiemann agreed with my initial reaction and her response to him is worth the read.

I commented at the end, but my main point was thus: it’s just as dangerous to ignore the situation, as it is to buy into the hype… The freaks and the bullies can now get to your family inside your house. The only way to stop is to be aware, be educated and discuss.
