I think social networking sites are a bit like chocolate. In moderation and at the right time, it's just fine. The world is indeed becoming more and more computer oriented and technology is not to blame for the regression of society. Our choices as individuals are to blame. While computers can be used for pointless reasons they can also be used constructively as well. For example, graphic designers and illustrators use Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, movie producers use computers for editing, composers and songwriters use Finale, Logic, or Garageband. Computers can be used for research and learning. Therefore teaching our youth about the proper use of technology is essential and that is what will keep us from further regression.

If one really would get picky the world has not seen a music genius since the early 1900s or late 1800s, so I suppose regression started then.

Best word ever - devolve. That is exactly what it is. I pity your generation for a lot of reasons. This is just one.

I completely agree, The social networking system completely fails to grasp the concept of "Genuine Conversation". For Example, Meeting a new person on Facebook and meeting someone in person are two completely levels. Facebook allows you to meet a lot of people in a short period of time (Leaving no chance to actually value the friend you made), but a face to face conversation you grants you the ability to get close to someone, i mean really listen intently to what there saying. This can never be achieved through Facebook because of the lack of emotion put through a computer screen (And no, emoticons are nowhere close to actual emotions). Besides do you really know who your meeting on Facebook? A lot of people fake who they are on most social networking sites again failing the task of creating a true relationship. Faking who you are in the real world is not that easy (not impossible) but not easy to say the least. Listen im 22 years young and i just hate to see my generation devolve when we should be moving forward. I mean honestly, We have to make a change...
