Teen YouTube Beaters Sentenced
Remember the vicious teen girls in Florida that taped themselves beating the hell out of a fellow student and posting it on YouTube… some of the girls are getting sentenced.
Below are two stories to read, but I also urge you to PLEASE click on the first story’s link and watch the videos. After the video of the story, you can watch some raw interview footage of some of the parents of the teens that did the beating and taping… And it’s with them that I am going to rant to you this Friday.
These EFFING A-HOLE ignorant parents!! These people are the reason cyberbullying persists. They have videotaped evidence of how vicious their kids are and they STILL have the nerve to call their kids “good kids” and accuse the sheriff of “trumping up charges.” They believe their kids, who are obviously lying and panicking now because they are in trouble, over the clear evidence and witness testimony.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?! UGH!
Folks, the bullying problem is not going to go away until the parents of bullies realize and admit that their kids are the problem and intervene to try and stop them. Until the parents of the bullies care that their kids are little jerks, nothing will change.
Makes me sick. Have a great weekend…
Oh yeah, and obviously you should be using PC Pandora computer monitoring software to monitor what your kid is doing online and how they are representing themselves and treating others…
No MySpace, Facebook for teen in YouTube beating case
Amy L. Edwards, Sentinel Staff Writer (PLEASE CLICK FOR VIDEO!)The once high-profile beating of Victoria “Tori” Lindsay in Polk County was supposedly videotaped for YouTube.
Today, a judge ordered one of her teenage attackers to stay off social networking Web sites and said she can’t make any money from the media, the State Attorney’s Office said.
Brittany Mayes, 18, pleaded guilty earlier this year to a count of battery. She was sentenced as a juvenile today to one year probation and received a handful of stipulations.
Mayes could have faced up to a year in jail.
Instead, the judge ordered her serve 50 hours community service, write an apology letter to Lindsay, and ordered her to have no contact with Lindsay.
Mayes is one of several girls accused of pummeling Lindsay last year. The attack was videotaped, supposedly so the teens could put it on YouTube, and quickly gained national media attention after the teens were arrested and the tape released.
All of the suspects took plea deals this year.
One of the teens who beat a fellow student on a videotape destined for YouTube will not be going to jail.
Brittany Mayes, 18, was sentenced to one year of probation on Thursday after striking a plea deal with prosecutors in January.
Mayes was also ordered to pay the victim’s family nearly $2,000 in restitution.
In accordance with the plea bargain, Mayes pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery. In exchange, prosecutors dropped felony kidnapping charges, which carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
As part of her probation, Mayes is banned from using social networking Web sites such as Facebook and Myspace.
Mercades Nichols was sentenced Friday to three years probation. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in January.
Nichols also was ordered to do 100 hours of community service, write a letter of apology to the victim and pay restitution.
In exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors dropped charges of felony kidnapping and witness tampering.
Four other teen girls were also arrested last April in connection with the attack that was recorded on video and broadcast around the world.
