Girls Be Kung Fu Fighting… all because of MySpace

Three different stories from around the US (FL, OH and TX) involve young teenage girls fighting and involve MySpace. The stories include fighting and then posting video of it on MySpace, a fistfight over MySpace comments, and – the most serious – a stabbing in the chest with scissors over a MySpace remark.

Seriously?

Weak, kids. Weak.

Parents, you have a golden opportunity here to stop things like this from happening by simply monitoring what their kids are doing online. If you kid is that obsessed with their MySpace page, you need to intervene. Don’t let it become a drug. We all know how crackheads get when they can’t have their fix or someone gets in the way of their fix.

Use our PC Pandora computer monitoring software to keep tabs on your child’s internet time, usage and activity. It’s as easy as that.

I dare you to argue.

Fight Between Girls At Local School Posted to MySpace
Erich Spivey, FirstCoastNews.com

JACKSONVILLE, FL — The fight goes on for almost two minutes, two female students throwing punch after punch, kicking each other and pulling hair.

Someone posted the video to MySpace and e-mailed it to the entire School Board. The fight happened at A. Philip Randolph Academies.

“There was no school staff there during that long period of time and I guess the most disappointing part was all this mob that gathered around, laughing about these bad manners and poor judgement,” school board member Stan Jordan told First Coast News’ Erich Spivey.

The school district said a security officer would cost approximately $47,000 a year. But school board member Stan Jordan thinks the problem is much bigger than a budget can handle.

“This is not necessarily a security issue as it is mom and dad need to be mom and dad. And they need to help us with these childrens’ behavior. This doesn’t start at school, this starts in the community and at home,” Jordan says.

The principal asked for more security, but a district spokesperson says none will be added in the near future.

Jordan says the two kids were suspended for three days.

Teen girls use MySpace to plan tussle
Staff reports, LimaOhio.com

DELPHOS — Two teenage girls are facing disorderly conduct charges in juvenile court after a fistfight that began over insults made on MySpace, police said.

Officers from the Delphos Police Department found the girls, ages 13 and 14, punching each other in the face as a large crowd looked on around 3 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Clay Street.

Police officials would not identify the girls.

Sgt. Kyle Fittro of the Delphos Police Department said one of the girls told police officials that after exchanging insults on MySpace, they used the social networking site to plan the after-school fight.

Neither was seriously injured.

The girls were released to family members after being arrested.

By Benjamin Gooding / The Dallas Morning News

A 14-year-old Fort Worth middle school student was stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors today as she fought with a classmate over comments posted on a MySpace page, police said.

The girl was stabbed at repeatedly during the fight at Handley Middle School, 2801 Patino Road.

Barbara Griffith, a Fort Worth school district spokeswoman, said the MySpace argument was about a posting during spring break. She did not know where the fight took place at the school or where the scissors came from.

The injured girl suffered two shallow, non-life threatening puncture wounds, Fort Worth police said. The other girl was taken to the Tarrant County juvenile detention facility.

Fort Worth police were not immediately available for additional comments.
