Parents Just Don’t Understand… or Care?

Researchers in the UK have released another shocking study. Well, actually, it’s not shocking if you are current with the facts of today’s lackluster parenting epidemic. The study shows a big disparity between the parents view their child’s real life and internet life. Parents are almost 100% concerned with who their child talks to in the real world, but then two-thirds of them have no idea who their kids are talking to online.

Ummm…? Helloooooo!!!

Ridiculous.

When will parents realize they absolutely MUST know what their kids are doing online? You MUST KNOW who they are talking to, where they are going and how they are interacting on the internet. There are no if’s and’s or but’s. The only excuse is weak parenting.

When there is technology available to help, like out PC Pandora computer monitoring software, you REALLY have no excuse.

Parents put children at risk by failing to monitor their online safety
Parents are putting their children at risk by failing to monitor their safety on the internet, a new study has warned.
Researchers discovered that parents are much less cautious over who they allow their children to talk to on social networking websites than they are in the real world.

While 95-percent of parents polled said they would not want their children speaking to strangers in public, 62-percent admitted they were unaware of their online contacts.

Half of the parents questioned could not name the person their child chats to most on the internet.

Only a third felt they were vigilant about their children’s internet safety, and 28-percent of parents said they do not supervise their online behavior at all.

The Virtual Parenting Report was commissioned to mark the launch of Yoursphere.co.uk, a new social network site available only to people aged under 18.

Mary Kay Hoal, herself a mother, who founded the site in response to her fears over children’s safety on the internet, said: “It’s clear from the research that parents take a huge interest in their child’s safety.

“But they are possibly missing a trick when it comes to monitoring their online behavior.

“Kids deserve a really safe place to meet up with their friends online that gives them freedom of expression, without fear of being targeted by predators or constrained by concerned parents breathing down their neck.”

The study also found that 68-percent of parents have no idea what their children discuss with friends online.

A further 43-percent have little or no knowledge of what photographs or personal information about their children have been posted on the internet.

Forty-percent of parents said they would allow their children to stay online past 9PM but only 30-percent would let them stay out this late in the real world.
