14-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed On Highway On Way to Meet MySpace Girl at 3AM
This story is incredibly sad. Let me state now I am not making light of it. But I have a serious problem here…
Basically, a “good” 14-year-old boy (overachiever, out-going, etc.) met a girl on MySpace. He went to go meet her at 3AM riding his little sister’s bike… and was stuck and killed on the highway by a car.
This is indeed very tragic. There is no way to look at it otherwise… but what I want to point out here is that this is what “good” kids, who seem perfect in everyone’s eyes will do: they meet people online, decide to meet them in real life, and disaster strikes.
Apparently he stole his sister’s bike and left at about 11PM. He was struck 16 miles from his home at 3AM on his way to meet the girl (not sure what happened in the 4 hours of elapsed time). His mother knew of the MySpace girl (which he had only known for a day or two) and begged him not to go.
But he did.
Why?
Because no matter how well you think you know them, kids are still kids…
Our thoughts and condolences to the family… Here are several links to click that will bring you to full stories.
