MySpace Monday Maniacs 11

This story made me laugh. Another classic example of how we live our stupidity through social networks, where it (the stupidity) then becomes amplified.

In central California, some scumbag was arrested for domestic violence, specifically, bashing the head of his baby mama against a wall because she didn’t have money for smokes. But this guy has his woman wrapped so tightly around his finger that first she lied about the incident (after-the-fact) and then took it upon herself to locate one of the jurors on MySpace and pleaded with the person to acquit her baby daddy. The juror was dismissed and now the lady is facing charges.

Tough call on who would wear the “I’m with Stupid” shirt at that party…

DA: Woman Uses MySpace To Tamper With Juror

A mother goes on MySpace to help her abusive boyfriend avoid jail time, but her plan backfired.

Miguel Dagoberto Lopez, of Woodland, was convicted of a felony domestic violence for the February 2009 beating of the mother of his child, Angela Gonzales, despite the victim’s lie for Lopez and even an attempt to tamper with the jury using MySpace, according to prosecutors.

Initial reports indicate that Gonzales told police that Lopez became angry when the victim did not have money for cigarettes and so he struck her while she held their 16-month-old child and then held her by her hair and beat head against the ground repeatedly.

During the trial, Gonzales told prosecutors she was angry and lied about the February beating.

“It is a tragic reality of many domestic violence cases that the victim will report an assault then, because of self-blame, humiliation or coercion, will attempt to cover up the crime, only to be assaulted again,” reports Couzens, prosecuting attorney.

Prior to the end of the case, Gonzales took it upon herself to locate one of the jurors on MySpace and pleaded with the person to acquit Lopez. The court has since excused the particular juror from the case.

“It is regrettable that a victim of a crime must be charged with a crime herself,” said District Attorney Jeff Reisig, “but communicating with an empanelled jury risks the integrity of the justice system and cannot be allowed.”
