Man Held On $1M Bail After Facebook Threats

The sooner that people realize that saying something on Facebook (or MySpace or Twitter or a Blog or anywhere online) is like saying something out-loud with a megaphone in a public square or on TV or on the radio or in the papers, the better off we’ll all be. There is no difference between saying something (threatening) on your Facebook page and calling the local TV station saying you have a bomb and will use it on people.

The guy in this story is 22 and is the perfect example of the older folks of the Net generation that still don’t understand that THE INTERNET IS NOT PRIVATE!!!

This really has nothing to do with monitoring software… other than, parents, if your kids are on social networks, you need to know who else is a part of that group….

PA man held on $1M bail after Facebook threats
The Associated Press

WYNDMOOR, PA – A suburban Philadelphia man is behind bars on $1 million cash bail after being accused of threatening to shoot up Springfield Township.

Police say they got a call that 22-year-old James Gallagher of Wyndmoor was posting threatening messages on his Facebook page.

A detective went undercover on the social networking site and was able to read several postings from late August.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says there were pictures of Gallagher holding AK-47 and AR-15 rifles on his Facebook profile. She says a search warrant executed at Gallagher’s home turned up guns, ammunition, and white supremacist memorabilia.
