Garfield Joins Internet Safety Battle

I actually only found one story on this from the AP and it’s very short. I haven’t seen a follow-up yet, but if I do – you know I will share it here. I am a HUGE Garfield fan. The holiday specials are some of the best ones ever created, I watched the primetime specials and Saturday morning cartoon show when I was a kid… and I have every DVD. So, if there is any Net safety news relating to the marmalade pussy cat, I will pounce on it!

Va. online safety effort gets boost from Garfield
By the Associated Press

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia’s effort to teach Internet safety to children is getting a boost from a certain orange cat with a predilection for lasagna.

“Garfield” creator Jim Davis is scheduled to attend the Virginia Educational Technology Conference in Richmond on Wednesday to unveil a new online safety program that will be offered free to Virginia schools, children and parents.

The office of Attorney General Bill Mims says the state Department of Education worked with the nonprofit Garfield Foundation to draft the script and curriculum. Mims’ office provided guidance and funding for the program.
