E-STOP Heads to Cali, Cali
I reported earlier this week that The Electronic Security and Targeting of Predators Act (E-STOP), which New York passed in 2008 and has been used to remove over 4,000 registered sex offenders living in NY from social networking sites, is making its way through Oklahoma legislature. Well, now California is following suit.
Below is a good story from ABC in San Francisco – with video! Check it out by

And remember, as good as it is to have the government on our side fighting out there, you shouldn’t rely on them and you don’t have to if you are using PC Pandora 6.0. With a computer monitoring software like ours, you can know exactly who your kids are talking to and, more importantly, who is trying to talk to them!

Measure would ban sex offenders from Facebook, MySpaceTuesday
By Lyanne Melendez, KGO-TV
SACRAMENTO, CA (KGO) — Registered sex offenders in California may soon be barred from using social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris is sponsoring legislation she believes will protect children from predators. If it becomes law, registered sex offenders in California would face jail time if they are caught on social networking websites. But, critics say the question really is, “How will those predators be caught?”

I think this is bullshit. I am a 290 registrant and have used those sites for what they were intended for, networking with my adult friends, all of whom know my background. Children shouldn’t even be on facebook, and letting children on a site like myspace where they can even talk to adults is just bad parenting. Personally my account is locked from seeing or being seen by people under 18, or that I don’t know. My crime did not involve physical contact or seduction of any kind; I was drunk and flashed a few people. For that the rest of my life is ruined and though I am sincerely sorry for my act, this is a horribly unfair law. It is the parents who let their children onto these sites, or the internet unsupervised, that should have the weight of the law brought down on them. If I were a parent, I would be scared of the people on the internet as well, but all you have to do is look through regular accounts on myspace to see that most pedophiles aren’t on a list. If this has since become law and I just haven’t heard about it, I would love to be informed so I can avoid being punished for talking to my friends.
