Monday’s Facebook/MySpace Maniacs #27

For the weekly MySpace mayhem post, I have three stories here that all have to do with threats made on social networks to others. Don’t these stupid kids understand that what you say online, you may as well say in the newsroom of a TV station or newspaper with a megaphone? Making a threat on a social networking page is no different than making it publicly in a crowded area. Everyone will read it, and you will get nicked.

FYI, parents, it’s up to you to know how your child is posting online and how they are representing themselves in the digital world. If they are making threats against others, you need to know about it and you need to intervene before it gets worse. See: PC Pandora 6.0 computer monitoring software

In Michigan, a 14-year-old middle school student was arrested after he made threats on MySpace to use various weapons, which he also so brilliantly displayed on MySpace, at a local skating rink.

Are you ready for this? An 18-year-old high school student in Florida may face Cyberstalking charges (because he is over 18; when an adult is the bully it’s stalking, not bullying) because he threatened to kill two female students that stepped on his foot and were rude to him. Seriously, bro? Chill.
