Another Bullying-Related Death Being Ignored??

Last week I wrote about the gay teen in Washington state who committed suicide. The cops closed the case and said bullying was not a factor – but every single friend of the victim has come forwards and said “yes, there was bullying.”

Now, in Tennessee, 17-year-old Morgan Johnson killed herself. The cops say that despite a lot of people coming forward and claiming bullying was a factor, no one can give specific examples or present evidence.

PLEASE someone tell me we are not that lazy that we are already running to the bully excuse every time this happens… We can’t make this a “cry wolf” scenario. If she was bullied, someone please provide law enforcement with the evidence they need. Otherwise, please don’t point to it.

Sheriff unable to connect suicide with specific instances of bullying
From WBIR-TV

The issue of bullying has become the focus of attention at McMinn Central High School after a 17-year-old girl took her own life Tuesday afternoon. Over 2,000 people showed up for a march against bullying Wednesday evening.

Morgan Johnson, 17, was a junior at McMinn Central High School where her peers say she was a popular, above average student. She did not go to school Tuesday, and was found around noon in a church parking lot, killed by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Although a lot has been said about bullying, McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy says the investigation so far has not uncovered any specific connection between bullying and the suicide.

“We’ve had a lot of people raise the issue of bullying,” said Sheriff Guy. “And while we agree that bullying should not be tolerated, no one we’ve talked with is able to identify a specific incident or a specific person or group of people who might have harassed Morgan. We are investigating some teasing that has been referred to, but it seems not to have been serious enough for anyone to report it to teachers or to our school resource officer. We continue to talk with people, but most of what we are getting is that ‘someone heard that something as going on’. It’s just heresay and rumors that haven’t been substantiated yet.Read more ›
