Amber Alert Prompts Local Law Enforcement to Remind Parents About Online Safety

You may remember that an Amber Alert was issued for a 12-year-old Kalispell girl Tuesday. The good news is Jasmine Walker was found yesterday afternoon south of Las Vegas – but authorities believe online predators are to blame for convincing her to leave home.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says it appears Jasmine Walker developed an online friendship with a 28- year-old California man who traveled to Montana to pick her up.

Now, the 28 –year-old, Edgard Le and 37-year-old Dennis Nelson face custodial interference charges and authorities say when it comes to online predators, parents and kids need to take steps to protect themselves. Read more ›

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to sexually exploit a child following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

James M. Goodman, 44, of Springfield, Ohio, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 180 months in prison for using the Internet to try and arrange to take sexually explicit photographs of young girls.

Carter M. Stewart, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott, Brian M. Moskowitz, special agent in charge, HSI Michigan and Ohio, and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the sentence handed down today by U.S. District Judge Gregory L. Frost.

“The defendant attempted to lure young girls online for the purpose of sexual exploitation and instead came under the scrutiny of law enforcement,” said Moskowitz. “This sentence should serve as a stark warning to online predators who use the Internet to further their crimes; We are watching and the aggressive investigation and prosecution of these individuals remains a high priority for HSI.” Read more ›

Jasper — A Jasper man was one of 21 men arrested during a recent undercover sting operation that used the Internet to identify and arrest online sexual predators, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO).

LITCHFIELD SUPERIOR COURT — A New Milford man free on $200,000 bond while he was prosecuted for using a MySpace account to lure a teenage girl to meet with him for travel and sex was sentenced in Superior Court Friday to seven years in prison.

James Perrine, 44, of 25 Old Farms Lane, admitted that he propositioned a 15 year old in 2009 using the screen name “Poohbearjim.” The communication was monitored by MySpace administrators and passed on to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, then police, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Terri L. TAMPA — A 64-year-old Wesley Chapel man was convicted this week on federal charges that he used his computer and cell phone to try to arrange a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old girl.

John Joseph Steele thought he was arranging for the meeting through the child’s guardian, but in fact, he was dealing with an undercover officer engaged in an operation to identify and apprehend child sexual predators, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Robert E. O’Neill. Read more ›

And finally, it is with a very very heavy heart that I have to write about this story: A 16-year-old girl named Angela Allen from Arkansas met a 36-year-old convicted sex offender named Lloyd Jones. He groomed her and gained enough trust so that when he picked her up at home, she got in the car with him. She never returned. Her body was found a few days later in a bllue plastic barrel on his property. Though they say no evidence of sexual contact is visible, the end result is 10 times worse. He strangled her to death.

Arkansas man charged with murder of teen he met online pleads not guilty

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A convicted rapist accused of killing a 16-year-old girl he met online pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder Wednesday, several days after authorities found the girl’s body in a blue, plastic barrel in western Arkansas.

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) — Family members of Angela Allen finally have answers to her disappearance, but they say they won’t have closure for quite some time.

Angela Allen’s mother Cecilia Reynolds says family members can now begin the healing process, but they say they won’t have closure until justice is served.
