This big huge story from this past week was the announcement of the results of a monthly-long, international online sextortion sting operation, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its Internet Crimes Against Children task forces. “Sextortion” is the growing trend where a predator doesn’t groom a victim to meet them and have sex in real life, but rather – through trickery or grooming – is able to entice nude photos of the victim, and them extorts them for more…

The arrests too place during June. 255 individuals across the globe were arrested. 244 are here in the US. 4 were women. 20 were charged with online sexual enticement of a minor. 2 were involved with sextortion of multiple victims. The other 235 were charged with child pornography production, possession and distribution of child pornography; traveling with the intent to have sex with a minor; and various other offenses, including rape and molestation. 17 of those arrested held positions of trust, including nine teachers and three clergy members.

ICE: ‘Operation iGuardian’ arrests 255 suspected child predators

Two hundred and fifty-five suspected child predators were arrested and 61 victims of child sexual exploitation were identified during a five-week operation announced Monday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its Internet Crimes Against Children task forces.

“Operation iGuardian,” which operated from May 28 to June 30, was described by ICE as a “surge operation” aimed at identifying and rescuing victims of online sexual exploitation, and arresting their abusers as well as others who own, trade and produce images of child pornography in the U.S. and its territories.

“Protecting our youth in the digital age requires all of us to be on the lookout for child predators abusing and extorting victims online,” said ICE Director John Morton. “Children and parents need to understand that not everyone online is who they say they are.

“Child abusers prowl social media looking for opportunities to force young people into sexual exploitation through guile, deceit, and extortion,” he said. “We want children to know that it’s wrong for any adult to solicit or pressure them for sex and that the law is on their side.”[READ FULL STORY]

Riverside County men arrested in sting targeting alleged child sexual predators

LA QUINTA — Two Riverside County men were among 255 people arrested during during a monthlong, nationwide federal sting targeting alleged child sexual predators.

Jarrett Wayne Martindale, 26, of La Quinta, was arrested July 1 on federal charges of distribution and possession of child pornography.

Martindale pleaded not guilty at his arraignment that same day in U.S. District Court in Riverside. A judge set his bail at $50,000, and a trial date was set for Aug. 20, according to court records.

Ryan Christopher Edgecomb, 32, of Murrieta, was arrested June 27 on suspicion of distribution and possession of child pornography, according to ICE. [READ FULL STORY]

Men from Wyoming and Hopkins arrested during federal sex predator sweep

WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) — Federal investigators say they’ve arrested 255 child predators, including two from West Michigan, during a nationwide sweep.
